Jewel carpet on display at MidEast Watch and Jewellery Show

A carpet made with pure gold and silver threads is on display at the ongoing 22nd MidEast Watch and Jewellery Show at Expo Centre Sharjah. The Show, which was inaugurated yesterday, will run till April 29, 2007.

The 6 X 4 ft. masterpiece has been weaved by master craftsmen from India and is embedded with approximately 1000 different precious and semi-precious stones including Lapis Lazuli, Coral, Garnet, Turquoise, Tiger’s eye, Jade, Agate, Cornelion, Jasper, Moonstone, Mother of Pearl, Conch-shell, and Turbo-shell.

According to Delhi-based Intermix Gems, the company that is showcasing the exquisite piece at the exhibition, such carpets were used in the early 18th century as wall hangings in Mughal palaces in India.

The MidEast Watch and Jewellery Show is featuring more than 350 master jewellers from Bahrain, Hong Kong – China, India, Italy, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Malaysia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Turkey, and the UAE.

Besides individual participation, the Show is also hosting several national pavilions Hong Kong – China, India, Italy, Thailand, and Singapore.

On display at the event are diamonds, precious stones, loose pearls, gold and diamond jewellery, diamond and pearl sets, and watches.

The MidEast Watch and Jewellery Show is an initiative of Expo Centre Sharjah. It is supported by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and the World Gold Council (WGC).
